Nomination sought for the 2009 Sonoma Treasure Artist of the Year

The City of Sonoma’s Cultural and Fine Arts Commission is now accepting nominations for the 2009 Sonoma Treasure Artist of the Year Award. The public is invited to submit names of individuals they feel would be worthy of the Sonoma Treasure Artist honor, along with a brief description of the artist’s work and contributions, and reasons for the nomination.
First awarded in 1983, the Sonoma Treasure is selected and recognized for outstanding achievement in a chosen artistic medium including the performing, visual, theatrical, literary and craft arts. The 2008 Sonoma Treasure Artist is Linda Rawls, best known for her work as a costume designer for the Sonoma City Opera, Sonoma Valley schools, the Sonoma Community Center, Sonoma Ballet Conservatory, Vintage House, Hootchi-Doo Productions and the 42nd Street Moon in San Francisco. Past honorees include musician Norton Buffalo, writer M.F.K. Fisher and cartoonist Linus Maurer.
Nominations need to be submitted in writing no later than 5 p.m., September 16, to City of Sonoma, Attn: City Clerk, No.1 The Plaza, Sonoma, CA 95476.
