SoloQuest expands services

Posted on October 16, 2009 by Sonoma Valley Sun

SoloQuest Learning Center is expanding its scope of academic services to include educational therapy. For the past 12 years SoloQuest tutors have helped scores of local students with academic schoolwork. This type of tutoring, although helpful, does not solve the learning difficulties of many students; it’s only a band-aid. Research indicates that 30 percent of all capable students will have some kind of difficulty processing information, leading to problems with reading and learning. SoloQuest now offers a solution for students diagnosed with learning disabilities and for students with learning difficulties.
Brain research has proven many students struggle with underlying cognitive learning skills: visual and auditory processing, attention, memory – they need to become independent learners of academic content. Most students who have these learning challenges tend to avoid their schoolwork as it is difficult, discouraging and frustrating. The expertise of skilled professionals is required to identify and treat learning difficulties and strengthen the underlying cognitive learning skills.
SoloQuest director and teacher, Deborah Stewart and teacher, Gaeta Stratton, have completed intensive trainings run by Jill Stowell of the Stowell Learning Center in Chino Hills, Calif.
SoloQuest now has the tools and expertise to address and improve the underlying cognitive skills necessary to learn academic content. Assessments to determine if there are deficiencies in a student’s processing skills can now be scheduled. If a problem exists, a professional clinician will design an individualized plan for your student to work on specific goals through carefully sequenced activities.
