Renee Wiggs, owner of Energy, the chic little fitness hot-spot located just off the Sonoma Plaza, has opened a small retail shop right in the studio.  In what was formerly a “coffee corner,” Wiggs has created a tiny little boutique bursting with top-quality fitness-wear that is not only beautiful and functional but ‘green’ as well.
The two main clothing lines represented, Prana and Be Present, feature well made, afforadable and, best of all, eco-friendly pieces using organic cottons and recycled materials like plastic bottles to produce soft, comfortable t-shirts, tanks and more.  An ingenious fabric called Tencil, made from the pulp of wood chips, is used to produce some of the exercise wear on display – with nary a splinter in sight.  There is also a wide variety of yoga pants to choose from.
In addition to clothing, Wiggs sells an array of gift items like gratitude journals, headbands and all natural soaps made locally by Q Designs.  And handmade candles in brightly colored tumblers — that can double as drinking glasses once the wax has been used and removed — make perfect hostess presents.  Yoga mats made from 100 percent recycled materials – which are in turn 100 percent biodegradable – are also available for purchase.
In designing the new boutique, Wiggs was interested in following a green model.  She put to use as many recycled, reclaimed and repurposed items as possible.  Lumber from a friend’s vineyard became a desk built by Wiggs herself.  Other wood was reused to create a unique doorway to the retail space and a shelving unit relegated to her garage got a makeover with bright blue paint and new glass doors.
Wiggs opened Energy a little over two years ago.  The studio offers yoga and Pilates classes along with dance-inspired fitness sessions and much more. Wiggs goes out of her way to look for fun and unique programs that inspire and motivate their clients.  For more information and a class schedule, visit www.en-er-gy.com.
