Two firms awarded Green Business status

The Sonoma Valley Green Business Recognition Program has named Wine Country Party & Events, and Broadway Catering and Events, to its roster of local Green businesses.

Launched in early 2007 by the Economic Development Partnership, the Green recognition program is designed to promote, encourage, and support green business practices throughout the local community.

To achieve recognition, a business must meet several minimum requirements, including obtaining assessments of their energy and water efficiency. Businesses must also demonstrate green business practices in each of seven areas: solid waste prevention, recycling,

purchasing, energy conservation, water conservation and water quality, transportation, and involvement of stakeholders.

Award recipients are encouraged to take their sustainability efforts to the next level by pursuing Bay Area Green Business Certification through the Sonoma County Business Environmental Alliance.

A total number of 28 local firms have been recognized as a Sonoma Valley Green Business.

Nighttime lane closures on Stage Gulch Road

Motorists traveling on Highway 116 can expect one-way traffic control Monday through Friday nights during an $11 million project to improve safety along the Stage Gulch Road corridor.

The nighttime lane closures will be in effect from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. with longer closures on the weekend. Caltrans warns that there could also be temporary delays during daytime work hours as construction trucks cross the highway.

The safety improvement project, slated to begin this week, will cover the roadway between Adobe Road and Arnold Drive. The stretch of road has long been considered one of the most dangerous in Sonoma County.

The upgrade includes new shoulders, horizontal and vertical curve reduction, a new alignment west of County Transfer Road, upgraded metal beam guard rail and new retaining walls. The project should be complete in about two years.

Motorists can stay informed about nighttime lane closures by visiting www.dot.ca.gov/dist4 or by following the project on twitter @sonoma116.

Sonoma Valley businesses go Face2Face

An event to bring business owners from throughout the Sonoma Valley together, the third “Face2Face,” will be held Thursday, May 6 at Sebastiani Winery & Vineyards.

The 5:30 p.m. mixer is hosted by the Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau, Heart of Sonoma Valley Association and Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce. Guests will enjoy the bounty of local wineries, restaurants and boutique retailers as they learn more about the treasures of downtown Sonoma and the Springs, and mingle with peers.

Businesses located in downtown Sonoma and the Springs are eligible to participate as “showcasers.” There is no cost to register. Businesses will be provided a 3-foot table space with linen for a promotional display-tasting-sample at this event, attended by around 500 business representatives from across the Valley.
