Broadway Quilts offers something for everyone

Posted on July 7, 2010 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Not just a shop for quilters, Broadway Quilts has stepped in to a void left when Sonoma’s only sewing store – Kay’s Fabrics – closed a number of years ago. The newly opened store next to Broadway Market is light and bright with all manner of quilts decorating the walls and colorful bolts of fabric throughout. Opened by quilter and long-time Sonoman, Gery Rosemrugy, the shop stocks everything necessary for a sewing project. From scissors and pins to zippers, books, thread and dozens of fabrics choices, it’s all there.
“Personally, I was going crazy without a fabric store in town,” said Rosemurgy. “I thought this was the perfect opportunity to open a business doing something that I love.”

Quilting is a multi-million dollar industry and a hobby about which many people are passionate. Rosemury says that serious quilters frequently plan vacations and getaways according to where they can purchase supplies or investigate new shops. She’s seen a flurry of customers in the shop’s first few weeks and is excited to get the word out.

“The response has been great. Quilters and crafters are wonderful, good-hearted people who enjoy making things. So far, everyone has had positive things to say about the shop, the fabrics and the classes,” said Rosemurgy.

The list of classes is extensive and ranges from “learn to sew” to advanced quilting. There are also sessions for children with a summer camp series coming in both July and August. Call the store for details on classes for adults and children.
Broadway Quilts is located at 20525 Broadway. For information call 938.7312.
