Sonoma Valley High School 2010 graduate, Bobby Schimm received the prestigious NACo Presidential Scholarship recently awarded by the National Association of Counties, a national organization representing over 3000 counties nationwide. Schimm was selected by Sonoma County 1st District Supervisor, Valerie Brown, as one of only two four-year scholarship award receipients. Brown is the current President of NACo.

Global engineering firm CH2M Hill Corporation sponsored the scholarship and following the presentation, Schimm delivered an acceptance address to about 2000 organization members at the Reno Convention Center.

While in Reno, Schimm and his family got to meet and hear an address on the state of the economy by Robert Reich, renowned economist and labor secretary to former President Bill Clinton. The group was also treated to an intimate visit with Supervisor Brown.

Schimm’s application for the scholarship included an essay on Brown’s Green Government initiative along with two letters of recommendation from the Sonoma Ecology Center and Gary Gissel, civics teacher at SVHS.

Schimm’s plans include attending Santa Rosa Junior College before transferring to a four-year university.  His areas of interest include business administration combined with political and environmental sciences.
