Benziger Family Winery and Imagery Winery have been selected as the 2010 Sonoma Valley Business of the Year by the Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Chris Benzinger, a partner in the family wine business, said that the family is honored to receive the award. “This came as a complete surprise. It’s great to be recognized by all the folks in the Valley. And to be the first winery awarded in an area that’s built around wine is an extra honor,” said Benzinger. “And the best part is that we get to be in the July 4th parade!”
As a business, Benziger Family Winery has supported community since taking root in the Valley more than 30 years ago. Known as “the green winery,” Benzinger has taken a leadership role in implementing biodynamic farming methods, dating back to in the mid-1990’s. This farming approach carries over to Imagery Estate Winery and has resulted in exceptional stewardship of some of the most scenic acres in northern Sonoma Valley as well as in the production of top caliber wines that reflect the distinctive health and vibrancy of the vineyards. The stewardship of the collective winery acreage including re-instatement of natural balances using ponds, gardens, habitats for birds and owls, cows, sheep and chickens and the creation of a wildlife sanctuary, is an impressive contribution to restoration and preservation of the Valley’s ecology.

In addition to their green businesse practices, Benziger Family Winery and Imagery Estate Winery were chosen by the chamber for their humanitarian contributions to the community. From the popular Harvest Wine Auction skits of the “Bad, Bad Benziger Boys” that have generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions to local charities over the years, to the 2010 “New Year’s Resolution” to increase volunteerism in the community, the Benziger family’s approach to giving in impressive.
The Benzinger family will be recognized during the chamber’s annual Business of the Year luncheon in October. At the same time, the Chamber will celebrate its 100th anniversary.
