Marin carjacking victim escapes in Sonoma

A San Rafael man was carjacked late Saturday night and driven to Sonoma by two suspects who later robbed an El Verano convenience store.

Still at large for the felony spree are Walter Diaz Ucan, 19, and Federico Chan Moo, 24, both of San Rafael.
The 59-year-old victim escaped his tormentors after being forced to try to withdraw cash from a Wells Fargo ATM on West Napa St. The attempt was unsuccessful and the victim was forced back into his vehicle, a white GMC Jimmy, with CA license plate 3XDD529, at about 2:50 a.m.

A few blocks away, on 5th Street West, the man managed to free himself from the vehicle, according to San Rafael Police Sgt. Jim Correa. “He screamed for help and a neighbor called the police,” he said.
Meanwhile, the suspects drove the victim’s vehicle to the 7-11 on Railroad Avenue and committed a strong-arm robbery, Correa said. The crime was captured on store surveillance footage, and the two crimes were quickly linked.

The victim rents a room in the Canal Area of San Rafael from one of the suspect’s relatives. He was lured to his vehicle at about 1 a.m. on August 25 and forced to drive to Sonoma, where a brother of one of the suspects lives. That residence, in Agua Caliente, was searched by police later that day, but no evidence was reported found.

Police are still searching for the suspects and the vehicle.
