Teen art featured at Sonoma Valley Regional Library

Posted on October 6, 2010 by Sonoma Valley Sun

During October the Sonoma Valley Regional Library will display art pieces created by Valley teens. The public is invited to meet the artists at the opening reception on Wednesday, October 6, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Among the exhibited pieces – art and jewelry made by artists from the The No Name Art Society, led by local artist Annie Falades. Ceramics and glass art created by teens at the Valley of the Moon Teen Center under the tutelage of Mara Unger will also be on display.

The Clay and Glass Arts Foundation, which seeks to foster appreciation and participation of art in under-served areas of the Valley, initially funded the program, which is now funded through private donations. Baked goods can be purchased during the reception from teen bakers of the “Lovin Oven” cooking program operated at the Valley of the Moon Teen Center and led by Anea Kamahele.

The Valley of the Moon Teen Center officially merged with Operation Youth, forming one 501c.3 nonprofit organization, called Sonoma Valley Teen Services. Sonoma Valley Teen Services offers programs at the No Name Café on the Sonoma Valley High School campus, the Valley of the Moon Teen Center on Highway 12, The Shop on Eighth Street East and Teen Safe Ride.
