DUI crackdown starts tonight

Posted on December 17, 2010 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Two additional deputies have been added to Valley patrols to get drunk drivers off the road this holiday season.

Stepped-up enforcement will be in effect county-wide through Jan.3. The extra work hours are made possible by a state grant through the Avoid the 13 DUI Task Force, which includes all law agencies.

The “saturation patrols” will be on the lookout specifically for impaired drivers, according to Sonoma Police Sgt. Spencer Crum.

“There’ll be two extra deputies in the Valley on nothing but DUI patrols,” he said.

In previous years, DUI/license checkpoints have been employed as part of the crackdown. Crum would not confirm if any checkpoints were planed for the city of Sonoma.
