Choose your creek for Cleanup Day

Posted on January 12, 2011 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Five creek sites will get a New Years makeover on Jan. 22 as the Sonoma Stream Stewardships, Sonoma County Regional Parks and Sonoma Ecology Center host a Creek Cleanup Day.
Volunteers are needed, rain or shine, from 9 to 11 a.m. at these five work sites:
Nathanson Creek Preserve, behind Harrison Middle School and Sonoma Valley High
Sassarini Elementary School, 652 Fifth Street West (bilingual)
Schell Creek Orchard, 22120 Broadway
Larson Park, at DeChene Avenue (bilingual)
Maxwell Farms Regional Park (parking fee waived for volunteers)
“We’re happy to see Sonoma Valley residents coming together year-round to care about their creeks,” said Marti Murray, Nathanson Creek Stewardship leader. “Once people know about the harm our waste, especially plastic, does to shore and aquatic animals, they get involved and make a difference. We are especially encouraged to see so many students participate and care for Nathanson Creek. ”
All ages and skill levels are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers will be getting dirty, so please dress appropriately: wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves, a snack and refillable water bottle. If you are bringing a group of ten or more people, RSVP to Julie Jehly at 996,0712 x115 or [email protected].
