Quilts for wounded troops

Posted on January 13, 2011 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Broadway Quilts and the American Legion sponsored a quilting gathering to sew quilts for our wounded soldiers, with each quilt sized specifically to fit stretchers and gurneys.

Experienced and first-time quilters came together to create a gift to comfort our injured troops who are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.  Volunteers donated their expertise, materials, and their labor.

The completed quilts will be hand delivered to the Aeromedical Staging Facility at Travis AFB whose mission is to fly our wounded warriors home.  The warriors will be able to select and keep any quilt that they like.

The next gathering at Broadway Quilts will be on Saturday, February 26 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and everyone is welcome to visit and join in.

Broadway Quilts is also a collection point for items to be sent as “care packages” for our troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other locations.  Your donated items will be packed, wrapped, and shipped by the Sonoma American Legion Post 489. Some examples are chap stick, gum, hand lotion, cookies, socks, small snacks, hard candy, shampoo, etc. The items are for men and women. Broadway Quilts is located at 20525 Broadway, 938.7132
