The Arts Guild of Sonoma held its annual membership meeting January 19th, saying goodbye to outgoing Guild President, Thena Trygstad who, along with long-standing Guild member Sandy Lane, leaves the Board of Directors after a six year term. The membership elected new co-Presidents and welcomed two new Board members. Katie Richardson and Wendy Phillippay will helm the organization for the next two years. Richardson has been an exhibiting artist member of the Guild since 2007 and is a prolific painter in the encaustic style. She joined the Board of Directors in 2008. Wendy, a non-artist community member of the Guild is a Bay Area securities lawyer, also joined the Board in 2008. Both women have co-chaired the Guild’s annual fundraiser, The Repo Show for the past three years. Joining the Board this year are longtime Guild artist member Lyn Swan and local artist and community member Barbara Muhlhauser. Other Guild officers are artist Barbara Aliza, vice president and artist Andrea Patri, treasurer.
The Arts Guild of Sonoma is the oldest, continuously operating artists’ cooperative in California and enjoys a 34-year history. Guild members show and sell original artworks from the Guild’s gallery, located on Napa Street between Readers’ Books and Café La Haye. The Guild is active in sponsoring community arts programs for Sonoma students and adults throughout the year.
