Flanked by his cameraman and Sonoma City Historian George McKale, television traveler Doug McConnell was on Sonoma Square last week. The Emmy-winner was in town shooting an informational video for the Blue Wing Adobe Preservation Committee. According to committee Chair Patricia Cullinan, the video will be part of a bid for Sonoma to be named a National Trust for Historic Preservation’s 2011 Dozen Distinctive Destination. “It would be a nice honor for Sonoma, and bring national recognition to the importance of historic preservation in our town,” she said. The list will be released Feb. 15. Meanwhile, McConnell, long the host of “Bay Area Backroads,” will soon be seen nationally on PBS’ “OpenRoad with Doug McConnell, Exploring the West.”
