CommonBond Foundation has named Anna Pier as its new executive director. The foundation’s President, Bill Hammett praised Pier saying, “Anna believes in our mission, and brings many skills, talents and inspiration to her work.”

Pier has directed CommonBond’s educational programs since 2007, including the summer language camps for children, tutoring and after-school classes, community forums, and English and Spanish classes for adults. Hammett credits Pier with the expansion of both the scope and enrollment of the foundation’s programs, and a visionary commitment to the foundation’s mission of “bridging the cultures of Sonoma.”

Pier, an honors graduate of Wellesley College, holds a Masters from Middlebury College and pursued doctoral studies in Romance languages at UC Berkeley. She has taught on the college level at Vassar and UCB. She taught first grade at Flowery, where she was one of the founders of the school’s dual immersion program. She has also been a class teacher and Spanish teacher in Waldorf charter schools. She is a member of the La Luz Board, and serves on the school district’s Seal of Biliteracy Committee. Generations of local parents know her advocacy for Latino children in our schools.

As executive director, Pier will continue directing the educational programs and will have oversight of the foundation’s other activities, including the local media outlets SunFM 91.3 and SunTV Comcast 27. In particular, she will serve as executive producer for a daily community news and interview television show in Spanish, which CommonBond hopes to launch later this year.

CommonBond is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
