Road to Reality for SVHS seniors

Posted on February 3, 2011 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Sonoma Valley High School seniors were given some valuable life lessons on Thursday courtesy of Soroptimist International of Sonoma Valley. Arriving at the Veterans Building early this morning students were treated to breakfast before breaking into groups to learn about everything from banking to the potentially calamitous affects of social networking. Presenters included attorney Ilene Addison; social networking expert, James Marshall Berry; WestAmerica Bank Vice President and SVHS alumnus, Paco Villasenor; Rachael McDavid of the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County; Rafael Vasquez of Santa Rosa Junior College presenting about life in college; Professional Career Consultant, Meta Strauss; Chip Romer and Geof Syphers talking about being your own boss; and finally, real estate broker, Avram Goldman, encouraging students to follow their own passions in life.

The day also included lunch, prepared by the SVHS Culinary Arts department and an address by Sonoma Mayor Laurie Gallian.

Prizes were raffled off at the end of the day with many local businesses donating to the event to make it the success it is each year.
