Beltane Ranch earns sustainability award

Posted on February 8, 2011 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Assemblymember Jared Huffman presents his Sustainable North Bay Award for February to the proprietors of Beltane Ranch, represented by, from left, Alexa Wood. her mother Rosemary, son Alex Benward and daughter Lauren Benward. Transformed into a bed and breakfast over thirty years ago, the Glen Ellen ranch and vineyard has become what Huffman called “a shining example of successful local agriculture,” producing everything from delicious Sauvignon Blanc to organic olives to grass-fed beef. The business, which has been in the Wood family for generations, also has impressive gardens that produce a wide array of sustainably-farmed fruits and vegetables. “They even have a robust composting system,” said Huffman, who toured the property on Feb. 4.
