Leslie Wheeler

Posted on February 17, 2011 by Submitted

Les Wheeler had an enormous heart and a terrific sense of humor, so it seems oddly fitting that our sweet and funny husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend left us in the early morning hours of February 14, 2011. We’d like to think he wanted to hang on long enough to wish us one more Happy Valentine’s Day…and perhaps have one more chance to make us laugh when we all realized that’s what day it was.

In addition to a good laugh, Les loved his trips to Mexico with wife Jerry, loved his four-legged companions (oftentimes taking in strays or rescue animals), enjoyed spending time with his silly grandsons, geeked out on all things related to computers and technology, was an inspiring musician and singer, and had an eye for photography.

There are no words to describe how much Les’ family and friends will (and already do) miss him. We are heartbroken by his passing, but know that living with the incurable cancer that had recently begun to ravage his body would only have meant more pain and suffering for him.

In addition to his dog Harry and cat Gracie, Les is survived by his wife, Jerry; his daughter, Jennifer Powers, her husband Jack, and their sons Matthew and Andrew; his daughter Sarah Wheeler and her partner Scott McNew; his sister Kaye Daughtry and her husband Henry; and his nephews Todd (and family) and Kirk.

A memorial with reception to follow will be held this Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 1:00pm in the Stone Room at Vintage House in Sonoma. All are welcome to attend and encouraged to bring fond memories of Les to share. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice By The Bay or Pets Lifeline.
