The flag-draped casket of Schell-Vista Fire Chief Mitch Mulas is readied for one last fire truck ride after funeral services Tuesday at St. Francis Solano.

More than 50 fire engines and service vehicles from throughout the region took part in the procession.

Mulas, 82, died March 31.

A Sonoma Valley High grad, Mulas was a dairyman and farmer who, along with his father, helped form the Schell-Vista Fire Protection District in 1942. He became assistant chief in 1955 and served as fire chief since 1968. Among his many civic posts he served on the Sonoma County Farm Bureau and as a trustee for the Sonoma Valley Unified School District.
