Open for play

The City of Sonoma Public Works department is soliciting feedback on the renovated Jean KT Carter Park in the Fryer Creek neighborhood.

The City of Sonoma received state funding to update both Jean KT Carter and Pinelli Parks to be compliant with ADA regulations. Approved by the City Council in September 2010, renovations to the playgrounds have continued throughout the winter months with the bulk of the work to be complete by March 1, 2011. Due to wet winter weather, a one-month extension granted by the state allowed for the work to be complete by April 27, 2011.

While still not fully complete, Carter Park is now open and is being taken advantage of by residents in the Fryer Creek neighborhood. According to Public Works Director Milenka Bates, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done at the site including irrigation repair, lawn reseeding, replacement or rehabilitation of the benches and tables, new barbeques, a repaired drinking fountain, as well as a new bike rack and sign for the park.

In a letter to neighbors, Bates also pointed out that, should sufficient funds remain, an additional play structure for older children, ages five to 12, will be added. She seeks input from community members in this regard. Those interested in providing feedback can contact Colleen Pratt at 938.3332 or [email protected].
