Friday Farmers Market team likely to keep contract

Posted on June 28, 2011 by Sonoma Valley Sun

After reviewing proposals from three potential operators of the Friday Farmers Market, Sonoma County Parks will recommend to the Board of Supervisors that the current management team be retained.

The group Sonoma Certified Farmers Market and its on-site manager, Hilda Swartz, has been running the weekly market at Depot Park for years.

Sonoma County Parks has jurisdiction over the space, which is on county land. It initiated a Request for Proposals several months ago after learning there was no contract in place with the market operator.

The review process is now complete, according to Sonoma County Parks Deputy Director Jim McCray. The department sent a letter of “intent to award” to the SCFM this week, McCray said, and made its recommendation to the board.

The matter will appear as a consent item on the supervisor’s July 12 meeting agenda. No hearing is planned.
Meanwhile the county has pushed up the timeline for repaving the Arnold Field parking lot. The job will begin July 5, McCray said, and be complete by July 29.

To accommodate the repaving job, the Friday Market will temporarily relocate to the grounds of Sebastiani Winery on Lovall Valley Road. The market will operate at the Arbor Park location, at 4th St. E., on July 8, 15 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
All regular farmers, vendors and artisans will take part at the temporary location, said market board member Ann Hollister.

  1. “The job will begin July 5 and be complete by ‘June 29’. Really, Sad editing Sun. As to the meat of the article “No hearing is planned”. So more of the same,

    1. Those names will be part of the agenda packet posted to the Board of Supervisors website in advance of the July 12 meeting, probably by the 8th. Will keep our eyes open for that.
