Examining the immigrant experience

The inaugural Immigrant Experience In Film, Dance and Story Festival, a two-day event with Mexican traditional cuisine, art and bilingual films, comes to Sonoma August 19 and 20.

The event is presented at the Sonoma Community Center by Nuestra Voz, Sonoma Theatre Alliance, Sonoma Community Center and the San Francisco Immigrant Film Festival.
The festival opens on Friday, August 19, with a 7 p.m. reception, including wine, food and Mexican fold dancers, plus the first of the weekend’s films.

The program of short and feature films from Mexico, Spain Italy and the U.S., begins Saturday at 4 p.m. Additionally, sharing stories of the immigrant experience will be Sonoma resident Jesus Campos and community leaders Lizbeth Cabrera and Davin Cardenas Alejandra Cervantes, director of Nuestra Voz, will also speak.

Passes, $20 for one day or $30 for two days, include food, wine, films and presentations within Andrews Hall, 276 E. Napa St. For tickets and information contact 939.9369.
