Former Altimira teacher Andrew Ryan is thrilled to be a new vice principal at Sonoma Valley High School. He is pictured here with his wife, Adele Harrison teacher Richelle Ryan, and son, Jake during a family trip to NYC in 2009.

Sonoma Valley High School alum and Altimira Middle School teacher Andrew Ryan is “thrilled” to be a new vice principal at the high school.

Ryan grew up in Sonoma, attended local schools and, subsequent to earning his Masters degree in Education from Chapman University in 2003, was hired as a PE teacher, activities director and multiple sport coach at Altimira, where he has taught ever since.

Ryan started his new position as vice principal on September 8 and said that, while he misses his students and coworkers at Altimira, he is excited at the opportunity to see his former students enter the high school and “help them transition to the rapidly approaching real world.”

“I am also looking forward to the challenges and successes that lay ahead with our new A-G requirements.  Anything we can do to better prepare our students and give them an advantage as they leave high school is paramount to their successes as an adult.”

It should be noted that the Ryan family is very in tune with the educational goings on in the Valley as Andrew’s wife, Richelle, is an Algebra and Social Studies teacher at Adele Harrison and his mother, Julie Ryan is a sixth-grade Language Arts teacher.
