District will hide ‘unsightly’ solar panels

The school district has developed landscaping plans in response to angry Railroad Avenue residents.

In response to criticism from neighbors that say its Railroad Avenue solar field has ruined their view, the Sonoma Valley School District has presented three different options to hide the “unsightly” array behind a landscaped fence.

According to Deputy Superintendent Justin Frese, the district budgeted $20,000 to landscape the fenced property around the panels. Working with a landscape architect, he said that planting should begin in or around October and, depending on weather, be complete by December.

Frese will meet with neighborhood spokesperson Ann Phillips this week to get feedback on the proposal. Following that meeting, Frese will meet with additional neighbors to refine the plan and move forward with landscaping.
