A tale of two pedicabs
Our early rains won’t dampen the spirits of the new crop of pedicabs that has popped up on the Plaza of late. Two separate companies are available for the foot sore among us, or simply those who prefer to tour in style. To follow are the details on each.
Codi Binkley of The Whiskey Thieves fame is the owner of Sonoma Pedicabs operating two cabs in and around Sonoma. Binkley doesn’t drive his own cabs rather, he leases them out to professional drivers who are prompt, courteous and knowledgeable about Sonoma and the surrounding area.
Launched in early August, Sonoma Pedi is available for impromptu rides around the Plaza, or for hire anytime of the day or evening for just $60 an hour. Binkley’s company also does wine tours to some of our area’s favorite wineries, Ravenswood and Bartholomew Park among them. The five-hour, full-day excursion encompasses visits to four different wineries and includes a picnic lunch for $395 for two passengers. The half-day is a memorable three-hour tour including a visit to two wineries and a seasonal snack of fresh fruit and cheese for $275 for two passengers.

Relative newcomer to the pedicab scene is the smaller but super accommodating Plaza Pedicab, owned and operated by Adrian Palenchar. Plaza Pedicab hit the road in mid-August with its one, custom built cab driven five days a week by Palenchar himself.
Hours vary but customers will most always find Palenchar driving his cab on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays as well as Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. When he doesn’t have designated hourly fares lined up, Palenchar cruises the Plaza for customers, acting like a taxi from about 6:30 p.m. until later in the evening.
Plaza Pedicab is also available for wine tours – with the cost of four-hour tour set at $100 per person including a light snack – or almost anything else customers can dream up like weddings, special events and more. Customer-friendly Palenchar can be called upon to provide a brief tour of the Plaza for visitors looking for a little more historical information. He says that meeting people is one of the best parts of the job and the city has been very supportive and welcoming of his new business.
