The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department has reported finding an elderly man who went missing on the evening of October 11. At approximately 10:30 on Wednesday, October 12, an area rancher reported finding an unresponsive male subject collapsed, on a dirt road near the end of Felder Rd., in Sonoma. Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with Sonoma Fire Department. It was determined that the person down was the missing person (John Blayney) from the night before.
It appears Mr. Blayney (age 84) who suffers from mild Alzheimer’s lost one of his shoes during the night. After an assessment at the scene, he was taken to Sonoma Valley Hospital for further examination with non-life threatening injuries. Once there, he was reunited with his family.

In addition to personnel from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and the Sonoma Police Department, multiple Search and Rescue volunteers also participated in the all night search for Mr. Blayney. They included Marin County Search and Rescue, Contra Costa County Search and Rescue and Helicopter Unit, Napa County Search and Rescue, Solano County Search and Rescue, the Sebastopol Police Department Explorer Post, the California Rescue Dog Association, the California Explorer Search and Rescue, and numerous neighborhood volunteers.
