Fire station developer seeks design ideas

The proposed development of the old Sonoma fire station building at 32 Patten St. will be the subject of a second community workshop on Saturday. Nov. 5 at 10 a.m.

The session at the site will include representatives from Foothill Developers, the company chosen by the city to revamp the long-vacant building. Opponents of the planned retail space cite design and parking concerns.

City Manager Linda Kelly said the session will focus on potential design alternatives for the redevelopment. The project architect will be on hand to draw and visually record the community’s thoughts on design proposals that emerge at the meeting, she said.

The workshop follows a similar session last month, which Doug Wiele of Foothill Partners called “intense. But I saw it as positive, an invaluable dialogue in setting community standards for the property’s development.”

Wiele said he is looking forward to continuing the dialogue as “we start to focus on design alternatives and start to build consensus.”
