Georgia Kelly, founder and director of Praxis Peace Institute in Sonoma, was awarded the 2011 Bob Tunks Peace Award from MOVES (Minimizing Occurrences of Violence in Everyday Society), a non-profit organization in Santa Rosa.

Kelly, at left, received the award plaque from Katie Sanchez, president of MOVES, at the group’s annual Day of Non-Violence Awards Luncheon.

Kelly was honored “for her remarkable efforts in reducing community violence through her work both as a musician whose compositions are renowned for their healing properties and her work as the founder and director of Praxis Peace Institute.” At Praxis, Kelly has created international conferences and seminars on peace-related themes, workshops in communication and conflict resolution, and educational programs for personal and social enrichment.

In addition to receiving an award from MOVES, Kelly also received certificates of recognition from Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, CA State Senators Mark Leno and Noreen Evans, and Assemblyman Jared Huffman.
