Sock it to me

Posted on December 8, 2011 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Socks for the young, socks for the older amongst us and socks for everyone in between – and I do mean everyone. The Square’s new Sox Appeal truly does have something for every person on your gift-giving list.

Owned and run by Sonoma local Jeannette Fung, the bright inviting shop is filled floor to ceiling with warm, cozy socks to keep even the chilliest toes snug. From sumptuous cashmere to artful novelty socks, fun ankle socks that teen girls love to mix and match, tons of tights, as well as plenty of kids’ socks in every imaginable size and color. The choices are as wide and varied as the prices, which range from under $5 to around $30 for cashmere blends with most selections coming in under $10. Of course, it’s not just about socks at Sox Appeal. There are also accessories like faux fur boot toppers, tiny leg warmers for babies and even a hat or two. And if what you seek isn’t available, Fung is happy to place an order including sports socks come game time.

Opened for just six weeks, Fung says that business has been brisk with half of her customers being locals. “I had a grandfather come in and buy a dozen pairs. He said he got most of his shopping done in just my shop. We were both thrilled.”

Where socks are concerned, Fung isn’t afraid to show her sense of humor. For those travelling this holiday season, there is an interesting pair that might give TSA a run for its money. But to find out which pair, you’ll have to visit Sox Appeal on your own.

Sox Appeal is at 107 East Napa Street, just down from Maya. 996-1413.
