Living the ‘Dream’ at SV High

Posted on March 9, 2012 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The Sonoma Valley High School’s run of Shakespeare “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” wraps up this weekend with 7 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday, March 9 and 10, and a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.

Jane Martin directs a large and talented ensemble of student actors in one of the Bard’s most popular works, weaving together three plot lines.

Joshua Sleeper plays Theseus, Duke of Athens, and Sarah Vaughn and Cassandra Gomez share the role of Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons. The Duke’s rigid rules cause a foursome of confused young lovers –- Hermia (Savannah U’Ren), Lysander (Sam Gegner), Helena (played on alternate performances by Katie Durkan, Chloe Hubbard and Maya Smoot) and Demetrius (John Wittbrodt) — to flee for the forest, where they are put under a spell by Oberon (Nick Grgich and Sean Hall) and Titania (Javia Headley and Heather Villasenor), who lead a band of mischievous fairies.

The along comes a band of roguish actors, led by a buffoon named Bottom (Buster La Haye and Eugene La Haye), which sets the stage for a prankster named Puck (Olivia Donald and Sam Gardella) to create chaos in the night.

Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for students and seniors. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Readers’ Books, Pharmaca or at the door of the school’s Little Theatre.
