Spotlight on: James Witous

Posted on April 13, 2012 by Sonoma Valley Sun

With years of Witchie Poo fame under his belt, local teen James Witous sought a bigger stage and is currently a theatre arts student at Marin School of the Arts at Novato High School. Described as a “natural” actor, Witous is now learning to take his raw talent and improve it under the direction of his theatre teacher Rodney Franz.
Of Franz, Witous said, “The man’s a genius! You can’t believe the amount of knowledge he has. He is always demanding more from his students. It’s really hard at times, but it always pays off.”

Witous’ theatre class recently had the opportunity to attend a competition at the Ohlone Festival in Fremont, California. Not only did the theatre department come home with many first and second place awards, but Witous came home with a special one of his own. Competing against the other 800 students, he received a full scholarship, worth $1600 to the Young Actors Theatre Summer Camp for playing Lysander in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Witous will be appearing in “Metamorphoses” the last two weeks of April at the Performing Arts Center at Marin School of the Arts at Novato High, 625 Arthur, Novato, Ca 94947.  Tickets can be found on brownpapertickets.com/event/238024.
