Kid for a day!

Posted on June 21, 2012 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The Founders Day open house at the Boys & Girls Club brought out the crowd.  More than 350 people converged to help the club celebrate their 50th anniversary while participating in games, activities, and all the fun the club has to offer.  Guests feasted on a delicious lunch courtesy of Mary’s Pizza Shack, Sonoma Market, Pop Chips, Clover Stornetta, Harvey’s Gourmet Mini Donuts, and Pepsi.  The Club served popcorn and snow cones to the enthusiastic crowd.

A highlight of the day: one original founder, Helen Fernandez, was on hand to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for her 50 years of service to the Club.

Not to be missed: the 2012 Grand Marshals’ Banquet for this weekend’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.  Tony LaRussa, former Major League Baseball Manager of the Chicago White Sox, Oakland A’s and St. Louis Cardinals will serve as this year’s Grand Marshal and will be honored at the banquet at Cline Cellars in Sonoma on Friday, June 22. The gala is a fundraiser for the Sonoma Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities & benefits the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley. Tickets are $250 each.
