Come August, Mary Ann Spitzer will join the team at Altimira as middle school’s new vice principal and academic coordinator, pending board approval.

Spitzer has worked in the District since 2003 in various capacities including special education teacher, curriculum and intervention coordinator, and volleyball coach. Most recently, she served as interim principal at Flowery Elementary during the time when that principal was on maternity leave. As a new member of the Altimira administrative team, Spitzer will provide support and guidance to students, staff, and parents as well as coordinate the school’s efforts to provide intervention support in the core subject areas of mathematics and language arts. She is bilingual in Spanish.

Prior to her arrival in Sonoma, Spitzer served as an educational consult for an environmental science grant through the San Francisco Education Fund.  She also taught high school special education at Galileo Academy of Science and Technology in the San Francisco Unified School District and at the Rincon School in Santa Rosa. She worked as a bilingual resource specialist for the Pajaro Valley Unified School District in Watsonville.
