Hotel hearing postponed

Posted on July 12, 2012 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The Sonoma Planning Commission had been scheduled to hold a study session on an application for a 59-room downtown hotel at its meeting of Thursday, July 12, 2012, but at the request of the applicant the item has been postponed to August.

The meeting will be held as scheduled, but without the hotel project on the agenda. Why? Three of the commissioners will be absent: Robert Felder, Mathew Tippell and Mark Heneveld.

Because of the significance of proposal, stated City Manager Linda Kelly, planning staff and the applicants agreed that it would be preferable for all seven Commissioners to be present for the initial study session.

The Chateau Sonoma application calls for a 59-unit room hotel (including a gym and an event facility), along with two ground-floor restaurants and 2,800 square feet of retail space on a 1.55-acre property located at 117-153 West Napa Street.

(In an earlier report, which mentioned possible opposition to the plan, The Sun mistakenly referred to the location as First Street East.)

Two dates in August are being considered for a special meeting, August 16 and August 23, which will also be the first opportunity for formal public comment.
