Posted on July 25, 2012 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Bill Boerum, currently treasurer of the Sonoma Valley Health Care District Board of Directors, has filed for reelection to the Board which oversees Sonoma Valley Hospital. Boerum was first appointed to the Board to fill a vacancy in March 2007 and won election to a full term in November 2008.

There are three Board positions up for election in November for four-year terms. Madolyn Agrimonti, currently serving as First Vice Chair is not a candidate for reelection because she is running for a position on the Sonoma City Council. Second Vice Chair Sharon Nevins will be running for a four year seat. Jane Hirsch. a member of the District Board’s Quality Committee is running for a four-year seat.

Peter Hohorst, currently Board Chair will be running for a two-year seat, completing the unexpired term of David Chambers, who was elected in 2010 but then resigned mid-term.

The seat is a non-paid, volunteer position.

During Boerum’s time on the Board he has served on the District’s Strategic Planning Committee and the Finance Committee, and headed the search committee that successfully recruited President & Chief Executive Officer Kelly Mather. He served as Chairman of the Board for two years, 2008-2010. Additionally, he is currently Chairman of the Board of the Northern California Health Care Authority, a consortium of five health care districts. He has been involved in campaigns to secure public financing for Sonoma Valley Hospital. With passage of the general obligation bond in 2008 he helped to structure and staff the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee to ensure that tax monies are used appropriately in the facilities upgrade project currently underway.

As to the current Board election, Boerum commented: “For the three positions up for election, I’m delighted to be running with Sharon and Jane, each of whom has unique and in-depth professional health care credentials.”

Boerum added: ‘Sharon is the former Chief Financial Officer of the Department of Public Health of the City and County of San Francisco and her insights beyond the financial realm have already proven valuable in our Board deliberations. Jane is the former Chief Nurse Executive at UCSF Medical Center, and former Director of the Nursing & Health Systems Leadership Graduate Program, UCSF School of Nursing. Her clinical and leadership experience will bring new dimensions to the Board as we continue to focus on improving the continuum of care at the hospital and dedicating resources for preventive medicine and care. We are offering a highly qualified team to the voters.”

Boerum pledges continued efforts to diversify the hospital’s revenue streams. “Speaking entirely for myself, I believe that in the medium to not so long term the hospital needs to become a self-sustaining enterprise, weaning itself from parcel taxes while providing value-added services to the community, especially seniors. Hospital administration is executing very well on our strategic plan with the benefits from regional affiliations and bringing more general practitioners and specialists to the community.”

Boerum has a Master of Business Administration Degree from Cornell University. He lives in Sonoma with his wife, Nancy. They have two adult sons and one grandson. Persons wanting to assist in Boerum’s campaign can reach him at 996-7005.
