‘Hanging Up the Keys’ seminar

Posted on October 7, 2012 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Are you concerned about a senior’s driving ability? A major challenge for older drivers, their families, and communities is the question of when to limit or stop driving.

To help families have sensitive and successful conversations with a loved one about their driving safety, the Sonoma County Area Agency on Aging is offering a free seminar at Vintage House on Wednesday, November 7, 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The seminar will cover topics like warning signs, conversation openers, how to construct a caring and effective conversation about driving and finding other forms of transportation so your loved one can continue to be active and remain part of the community.

Registration is required. Call Beverley Odell at Vintage House at 996-0311 to register or for additional information.

A follow-up five-week support group at Vintage House will be held for seniors who are considering the major life challenge of becoming a non-driver and for seniors who are already dealing with the challenges of being a non-driver. The support group will focus on adjustment issues, achieving continued mobility and meeting lifestyle needs and desires. The group will be on Wednesdays, November 14 through December 19, from 10 to 11 a.m. If you are interested in attending, call 996-0311.
