Plant local

Posted on October 30, 2012 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Landscape professional Paul Martinez, founder or Sonoma Valley Wholesale Nursery, will discuss “Plants of Our Valley and Their Care” at a Valley of the Moon Garden Club meeting on Thursday evening, Nov 1.

Martinez, who studied Horticulture at Pierce College in L.A., has been in the landscaping industry in Sonoma Valley since 1978 as the owner of PDM Landscape. He has built and maintained gardens of all designs and sizes, specializing in integrating plants specifically suited to the local climate and soils.

Martinez will discuss sustainability practices, such as creating a proprietary soil mixture (alive and rich with microbes), selecting low water usage plants whenever possible, and favoring plants, shrubs and trees that do not need frequent trimming and pruning.

The free 7 p.m. at the Sonoma Community Center will followed by a garden raffle and refreshments. For more information about club contact George at 707.935.5939
