First District Supervisor Susan Gorin, left, joins the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors Tuesday after taking the Oath of Allegiance from State Senator Noreen Evans. Gorin, greeted with a standing ovation in the board chambers in Santa Rosa, thanked supporters and outgoing supervisor Valerie Brown, particularly acknowledging Brown’s efforts to place Sonoma County at the forefront of environmental and other issues.

Supervisors Shirlee Zane, far right, and Efren Carrillo also took ceremonial oaths to begin their second terms. Protocol allows each member to choose the person who will administer the oath. While Gorin had Evans, a friend and political colleague, perform the ceremony, Carillo was sworn in by his father. Zane took her oath from Carroll Estes, founder and first director of the Institute of Health and Aging at UCSF.
