Dino Battaglini, principal of Sonoma Valley High School since July of 2010, resigned last week and was immediately replaced by Lynn Fitzpatrick, the district’s director of curriculum and instruction.

The school board accepted Battaglini’s resignation at a special meeting on Jan. 17. Officially, Battaglini is on leave of absence until the end of the school year. His final day under district contract is June 30.

“The district appreciates Dino’s contributions and wishes him well in his future endeavors,” stated School Superintendent Louann Carlomagno.

Fitzpatrick took over as principal on Tuesday. “Lynn has worked closely with the administration and staff at SVHS in implementing the a-g graduation requirements, developing the Freshman Team concept, preparing for implementation of the common core curriculum, and advancing the development of college and career pathways,” Carlomagno said.

The district will launch a search for a new principal immediately, Carlomagno said, with the goal of naming the new principal before the end of the current school year. “The district is optimistic that Sonoma Valley will attract quality candidates.”
