Meet the royals

Posted on February 5, 2013 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Sonoma residents Jeanne and Chip Allen have been named King and Queen of the Meadowcroft Wines third annual Mardi Gras Celebration on Saturday, February 9

“Chip and I are very excited about stepping up to royalty even if it’s just for a day,” said Jeanne Allen. “We hope many of our friends will come out and celebrate Mardi Gras with us as we assume the throne of the Krewe of Meadowcroft.”

The bash, from noon to 4 p.m. takes over the tasting room located within Cornerstone Sonoma.

The Allen’s have been Sonoma residents for more than 12 years. Jeannie Allen retired from Levi Strauss in San Francisco prior to moving to Sonoma and is past president of the Sonoma Valley Newcomers Club. Chip Allen, an attorney specializing in estate and business planning, is the outgoing president of the Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Rotary Club.

The Allen’s were recommended for the throne by last year’s king and queen, Ronda and Mike Giangreco.

“We are thrilled to announce that Jeanne and Chip Allen have agreed to become our king and queen of this year’s Krewe of Meadowcroft celebration this year,” said Tom Meadowcroft, owner and winemaker of Meadowcroft Wines. “They are both very community oriented as well as great ambassadors of the city of Sonoma.”

Entertainment for the celebration will be provided by Petaluma-based Rhythmtown Jive, an exciting six-piece band playing infectious dance music, delivering sets of rhythm & blues, Zydeco, jump/swing, and of course a big helping of New Orleans musical gems.

Rhythmtown Jive will also lead the annual Second Line Parade around the shops and through the gardens at Cornerstone. This year the parade will feature a variety of mini “floats” created by local organizations and businesses which promises to be the biggest Second Line Parade yet.

All the food for this Mardi Gras celebration is being flown in from Louisiana. On the menu is Crawfish Etouffe served over rice arriving from Baton Rouge, red beans and rice with smoked Cajun sausage from Eunice, Jack Miller’s Bar-be-que Sauce from Ville Platte, as well as French bread, Louisiana Sensation salad and King Cakes from New Orleans. And the Cajun food will be paired with Meadowcroft Wines.

The Krewe of Meadowcroft Mardi Gras party is $50 per person in advance and $60 per person beginning February 1, and $40 per person for Meadowcroft Wine Club members. The ticket price covers food, wine, music, dancing, parade participation and fun. Tickets may be purchased at 934.4090, Meadowcroftwines.com or Localwineevents.com.

Cornerstone Sonoma is located at 23574 Arnold Drive/Hwy 121.
