Cops nab serial burglary suspect

A man being arrested for two unrelated warrants was found with a stash of collectable coins, passports, and social security cards belonging to victims of recent Sonoma Valley burglaries.

Harley Adkins, 28, was found late Thursday night sitting in a “suspicious occupied vehicle” in the 20200 block of 5th Street West in Sonoma, according to the Sheriff’s report. Adkins was arrested for two outstanding warrants out of Tehama County, including a charge of transportation of drugs.

Deputies searched Adkins vehicle and discovered collectable coins, passports, and social security cards. The stolen items were later linked to at least four residential burglaries in Sonoma, Glen Ellen and Santa Rosa. A black truck spotted at one of the crime scenes was also linked to Adkins, police said.

Following up on a business card found in the suspect’s pocket, detectives found a coin shop where Adkins had allegedly sold some of the stolen coins and jewelry.

Detectives viewed surveillance video of the coin shop transactions and discovered a second suspect, a 17-year-old male from the Sonoma Valley area. The juvenile was arrested for possession of stolen property. A search of his bedroom turned up additional stolen property, three pounds of processed marijuana, and packaging material.

Already in jail on $310,000 bail, Adkins was additionally charged with three counts of commercial burglary and the counts of residential burglary, with bail reset to $410,000.

Detectives went to the Sonoma County Jail and charged Harley Joe Adkins, 28 years old, a resident of Eureka, with 3 counts of 1st Degree Residential Burglary, 3 counts of Commercial Burglary, and 1 count of Possession of Stolen Property. Adkins’ bail was raised to $460,000 due to the additional charges.
