Sonomawood, the sequel

The Sonomawood sign, the homey knock-off of the famous Hollywood sign that graced the Plaza during last year’s film fest, will be back. After an bureaucratic preview that the sign would be nixed, the city council vote unanimously (10 thumbs up) to green light the installation for an April 10-16 run. The handiwork of Walt Williams and his art students, the sign is a point of local pride and visitor attention, the panel decided. Plus, added Councilmember Steve Barbose, “It shows we have a sense of humor about ourselves,” cuing a round of applause… Sense of humor? “They’ve got me for a mayor,” added Ken Brown.

Seemingly employing as many teenagers as Disneyland in peak season, the high school production of “Beauty and the Beast” was a high-energy hit its first weekend. The troupe returns to the castle for three more shows this weekend. Irma Kay loved it. The theater maven (ask her about the time she produced “Oklahoma “ at San Quentin) said it’s one of the best regional shows she’s seen. “The large cast was very well rehearsed, and displayed an unusually wonderful sense of theatre discipline as well as great enthusiasm. It was very refreshing to see a group of students work as professionals.” Plus, a singing candlestick.

Supervisor Susan Gorin will attend a town hall meeting March 14 at 7 p.m. The location, the Sonoma Valley Grange Hall, should be easy to find – that’s the part of the Springs that has streetlights and decent sidewalks.

Some ingrate stole the campground money out of the lockbox at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park late last month. His karma must have gone over the cliff on the ride up.
