Bhatia won't return to Sassarini

It’s official: Kristin Gornick is the new principal of Sassarini Elementary School. She has held the post on an interim basis since October, when principal Leticia Bhatia went on maternity leave.

According to School District Superintendent Louann Carlomagno, Bhatia told staff today that she will not be returning to Sonoma Valley next year, as she will be working closer to her home in Millbrae and spending more time with her baby, Amadeo.

“We wish Lety well and thank her for her years of service in Sonoma Valley,” Carlomagno said. “She will be missed.”

Gornick moved from Los Angeles to take the Sonoma job in October. She graduated from Occidental College in L.A. and earned a Master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

She then served as an assistant principal and principal at the middle school level in school communities that. Carlomagno said, were very similar to Sassarini.

“We are thrilled to have a professional of Kris’ caliber on our education team in the Valley,” Carlomagno said. “She is an excellent addition to the team of learning professionals at Sassarini School.”
