Sonoma’s James Witous and his girlfriend Maddie Milliner take top honors at the Ohlone College High School Theatre Festival in Fremont, a three-round competition among 750 students from 26 schools. The duo took first place in the Classical, Humorous Ensemble category with their performance of “Taming of the Shrew.”

The piece also earned them first prize at another prestigious competition, the Blair Shakespeare Festival at Chapman University in Orange County. Witous, who attends the Marin School of the Arts (MSA) of Novato High School, performs in “An Italian Straw Hat,” which closes with three shows this weekend at the MSA Performing Arts Center in Novato.
