Dan Takasugi, Sonoma’s new Public Works Director and City Engineer, starts April 29.

Takasugi held a similar position for the city of Calistoga for the past six years.

Takasugi has over 25 years of experience in public works, utility management, and capital project management, which will provide solid support for the City’s aging infrastructure.

“I’m excited to join the Sonoma’s team and am looking forward to working collaboratively with staff and the community to solve significant public works challenges,” Takasugi said.

City Manager Carol Giovanatto said that filling the newly-created position completes the transition from having a separate Public Works Administrator and a contracted City Engineer, to having a combined, single position.

“Mr. Takasugi’s record of implementing solutions to complex problems will be a good fit for the city’s Public Works Department,” she said.

Takasugi is a California-licensed Professional Civil Engineer and has a M.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, a M.S. Degree in Computer Systems Management from the University of Maryland, a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and a B.S. Degree in Computer Science from Seattle Pacific University.

He is a 22-year veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard, attaining the rank of Commander.
