Preventing identity theft

The number one consumer complaint to the Federal Trade Commission every year for the last 12 years? Identity theft, a crime that could be claiming claiming nearly a million victims every month.

On Wednesday, May 15, 2 to 3 p.m. the Sonoma Police Department, in conjunction with the Identity Theft Council presents the seminar “The Truths and Myths of Identity Theft in 2013.” The free event will be held a Vintage House, 264 First St. E.

The presentation covers how identity theft happens and what can be done about it, how to protect identity and credit, and where to get help if ever one becomes a victim of identity theft.
