Back on track

A passenger train winds into view at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday, riding rails that in some stretches hadn’t carried a passenger train in nearly 50 years.

While NASACR drivers were gearing up for Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350 (won by Martin Truex Jr.), the special train, and its 500 passengers, was making its way from Sacramento, with stops in Davis and Suisun.

“We have worked for nearly two decades to make this happen,” said Steve Page, president and general manager of Sonoma Raceway. Excited fans – rail and stock car alike – made the debut trip a quick sell-out when it was announced in May.
