Editor: Open Letter sent to Mayor Ken Brown

The Honorable Ken Brown
Mayor, Sonoma, CA
1 The Plaza
Sonoma, CA. 95476

Dear Mayor Brown:
I would love to be present at the City Council meeting scheduled for Monday, July 2nd; however, a previous commitment keeps me from being there to present my views on Sonoma Clean Power.
First of all, I applaud you for taking the time to review the Santa Rosa study and the views of David Keller before voting on such an important issue that will affect all Sonoma residents.
I, for one, do not feel there has been enough information generated to the general public on this subject. Frankly, most residents don’t have a clue that this issue is before the City Council and subject to a vote. I am not opposed to competition in industry, but I do think the honest facts need to be spelled out clearly and concisely to every single homeowner and they should have a say on the type of energy they will be using and ultimately paying for.
I am appalled at the comments of Council Member Tom Rouse as quoted in the Sonoma Index Tribune. It sounds, once again, that some members of the Council feel they wield all the power in this town. “Let’s vote on this and read it later”! Remind you of any other politicians currently in office?
From the research that I have done to date, it is PGE who must provide all of the service from billing to maintenance, must remain under the guidlines of the CPUC and its rules and regulations, must continue to generate and improve their current energy sources and, all the while SCP is not regulated in anyway, shape or form. What a disparity! Fair is fair but this seems way out of balance to me.
I am whole heartedly opposed to the automatic opt-in provision and strongly urge you to vote NO on this proposal.
Sincerely yours,

Laurie Sebesta
