Grow your own first-aid kit

Medicinal herbs can be used to treat a variety of simple first aid situations such as burns, scrapes, minor cuts, and bruises as well as other common ailments including colds/flu, fevers, sleep issues, toothaches, and food poisoning. Tina Tedesco, a long-time local herbalist, shows how in a Backyard Herbal First Aid Workshop on Saturday, August 3, 10 a.m. to noon a.m. at Sonoma Garden Park.

Tedesco will explore the core group of common herbs to keep on hand at all times for home-based first aid. Some of the herbs that will be discussed during the workshop are available to grow in your home garden or can be easily found at local health stores. These herbs have a long track record of effectiveness as well as a wide range of applications, and can be used safely for all ages.

Tina Tedesco grows her own medicinal herbs and makes variety of herbal products. She is also a certified Reiki Master and incorporates shamanic energy healing into her work. Tedesco has a practice at the Sonoma Holistic Center.

The cost of the workshop is $10 for Sonoma Ecology Center members and $15 for non-members. All proceeds benefit Sonoma Garden Park, a working farm and model of sustainable agriculture, managed by Sonoma Ecology Center. The park is located at 19996 Seventh Street East, between MacArthur and Denmark Streets in Sonoma.
