Soccer champs

The Valley of the Moon Soccer Club youth team went undefeated to win the Benicia Old Capitol Classic Tournament. Ten teams in the age group competed in the tournament, which is affiliated with USclub and CYSA, the two main soccer associations in the USA.

“As we kept winning, the bystanders wondered just where this team came from,” said team manager Rosa Cervantes.

Valley of the Moon Soccer Club, a program of Nuestra Voz of Sonoma, was created in 2009 to provide outdoor activities and promote health for children. Soccer program participants currently number 120, ages 5 to 16, with activities for both boys and girls. There are 32 coaches/team managers and eight referees who have trained the eight select teams and the ten recreational teams, each with eight players.
